Welcome Victorians!

My name is Helen Hayes and I am the 2017 Orientation Co-Chair. It is my pleasure to welcome you to Victoria College! Vic is very dear to my heart. Throughout the last three years I have spent at Victoria College, I have grown as a student, as a leader, and as an individual. I attribute much of this growth to my involvement in Vic’s outstanding Orientation program. Participating in Orientation will give you the opportunity to meet new friends, explore campus, learn about resources available to you, and begin your journey as the newest cohort of Victorians! As 2017 Orientation Co-Chair I have prioritized the planning of inclusive orientation programming  in order to ensure that all individuals have as enjoyable an experience as possible. I am very proud of Vic's diverse, friendly, and accepting community, and Orientation will certainly uphold those values. Vic is my “home away from home,” and I'm sure it soon will become yours as well!

Orientation is a great opportunity to become familiar with Victoria College and its community. Every year a group of Orientation Executives strive to provide the incoming class with a wide variety of events that welcome you to our campus! After residence Move-In on Sunday, September 3rd, Orientation officially kicks off at 8am on Monday, September 4th and runs until Wednesday, September 6th. (Psst - there's also Karaoke Thursday!)

Orientation 2017 will be more jam-packed with events than ever before – you certainly won't fall short of things to do! This year we are continuing to offer academic information sessions to help you navigate your first year at university. From the Registrar’s Academic Welcome to the Transitional Seminars, you will find everything you need to become acquainted with academics at the university level. We also have some exciting social events such as our "Scarlet and Gold Party" and "1836: Welcome Home Vic". There is always something for everyone to enjoy!

As one of the larger colleges at the University of Toronto, Vic has the resources, dedication, and passion to provide its incoming students with the best Orientation events - Vic has the reputation of having the best Orientation Week at U of T for a reason! Check out our Orientation schedule listed under the "Orientation Week" tab to see what interests you! Hope to see you there!

A "commuter" is a student who travels from home in order to get to class everyday - in other words, pretty much everyone who does not live in residence! Being one of the only colleges at U of T to offer extended programming exclusively for commuter students, we here at Victoria College aim to provide you with a memorable introduction to university life. Prior to September's Orientation Week, Commuter Orientation, or "Comm-O" as we like to call it, is a weekend of programming exclusively for our incoming class of commuter students - and yes, you can go to both O-Week and Comm-O!

All students who register for Commuter Orientation are guaranteed a room to stay in for Saturday night, and food throughout the weekend. Activities planned include talks on university life, information sessions, tours, socials, and lots of fun! This year registration for Comm-O opens July 1 and the week itself takes place Aug. 12-13 - that's just 3 weeks before Orientation Week, so make sure to register soon!

Victoria College, along with the other colleges, is a Positive Space. For more information on resources available at U of T, visit the Positive Space website.
