FAQ & REGISTRATION
What is Commuter Orientation?
Commuter Orientation is hosted in addition to Orientation in September - i.e., you do not have to choose to attend one or the other; we hope to see you at both! Comm-O is organized by commuter students, for commuter students. It’s your one-stop shop to get acquainted with Vic’s commuter community, get started on making new friends, and explore the city of Toronto.
During Comm-O, students stay overnight in residence. This means you get a taste of the res life and we’re able to have more nighttime programming. Read on to see what you’ll need to bring to make your stay comfortable!
Who qualifies as a Commuter student?
Any student who does not live on residence is a commuter student. Even if you live close to campus, this is the weekend for you!
Whether you commute by train, bus, car, TTC, or on foot, we hope you’ll commute to Comm-O!
How do I register for Comm-O?
You can register for [Comm-o by clicking here]! There is a fee of $40 dollars to attend Comm-O but if cost would prevent you from being able to attend, please see below for an easy solution. This fee covers all meals, merchandise and accommodations.
If I can’t cover the cost of Comm-O, can I still attend?
(The answer is YES!) At Vic, we believe that personal finances shouldn't impact the quality of your university experience. We provide many financial resources for our students, including a bursary to cover the registration fee for Commuter Orientation.
If you are unable to attend Comm-O due to its cost, please send our Campus Life Coordinator, Christina Alcena, an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and she'll work with you to have the fee waived.
What should I bring for the weekend?
While there’s no need to bring your whole wardrobe, there are a few things you should pack for Comm-O. They include:
- Toothbrush and other toiletries
- Flip flops/shower shoes if you plan on showering
- Any medications or other prescriptions
- A sweater or light jacked
- A water bottle, hat, and sunscreen
- Comfortable walking shoes
- A sleeping bag and pillow (for on top of the residence bed in your room)
- Casual clothes for both Saturday and Sunday
- Comm-O runs rain or shine, so bring clothes that will work for both!
What kind of programming does Comm-O host?
You can see the preliminary schedule below! More generally, Comm-O hosts social events, collaborative events with Vic student groups, a surprise off-campus excursion, and provides some great meals.
What if I have other questions?
Feel free to ask! You can reach our Orientation Co-Chair, Ali Kehl, by email email@example.com.
