What is the Transition Mentor program?
The Transition Mentor program is an essential part of the first-year experience of all undergraduate students at Victoria College in the University of Toronto. All incoming first-year students will be put in a mentor group led by a Transition Mentor, an upper-year Vic student, who will help orient them to university life. Mentors will provide new students with opportunities to meet other students, get engaged with Vic and U of T, and meet their personal and academic goals.
After leading first-year students through Orientation Week, Mentors will stay in touch via email to let students know about upcoming events, workshops, important dates, and more! Mentors will also help their students access the wide range of academic, personal, mental health, financial, and extracurricular resources available at Victoria College and U of T.
Mentors also host weekly Success Series programming (see below for more information).
The Transition Mentor program begins on the first day of Orientation on September 2, 2019 and continues until the end of the academic year.
What’s the Success Series?
The weekly Success Series programming is a sequence of informal workshops that are part of the Transition Mentor program. Each workshop is held at Victoria College and hosted by Transition Mentors and various Vic offices. Topics include: academic success, financial management, how to write a great university essay, how to find a summer job, and more!
Visit the Success Series page for a detailed breakdown on the dates, times, and topics of the 2019-2020 workshops.

Why should I be a part of the Transition Mentor program?
The University of Toronto is a world-renowned institution and a special school, but it’s also a big and sometimes overwhelming place. Through active participation in the Transition Mentor program, first-year students will be able to better navigate university life in all areas. You’ll gain the skills you need to thrive in your academic, personal, and extracurricular life throughout your undergraduate studies!
Our Mentors are upper-year students from many different backgrounds and programs of study who have all gone through the high school-to-first year transition. They are dedicated to helping you make the most of your first-year and beyond!
